The first thing I do when I get to the hospital each morning is look over my patient assignment for the day. This not only lists which room numbers I’ve personally been assigned to, but it also equips all the staff with an important visual summary of which patients on our 45-bed unit may need extra attention that day.
So now we can help ANY patient – not just ours – should the need arise.
Next, I use a marker to highlight the rooms assigned to me. Even though all the patients are important, these are the ones I am ultimately responsible for that day. They are set apart from the others because these are the people I will be paying the most attention to. They are the ones who will need me most.
They’re MINE.
Some may see this assignment as mere numbers on a page decided by the charge nurse. To me, though, this assignment represents the people God is placing in my life for however long He wills.
Patients, colleagues, visitors – every single person I encounter throughout the day – He has an absolute pre-ordained purpose for our time together. Yes, He does.
He is INTENTIONALLY intertwining of our stories.
With all this in mind, I pray about this assignment before I ever even leave my house in the morning. I thank God ahead of time for purposely giving me the particular people who will be on my particular assignment on that particular day, because I know we will together accomplish the purpose He has intended for us. Whatever that purpose may be.
Likewise, I want you to know that I also pray for you. You may think you just randomly happened upon “Growing Nurse Debi”, but don’t be mistaken. There is no randomness about this at all. God has brought us together – you and me – for an absolute and particular purpose.
Your story and mine are being intentionally intertwined, as well. By our great God.
“Growing Nurse Debi” is a ministry that I take very seriously because it was given to me by God. It’s all about Him, for Him, and from Him.
He’s the one who gave me this beautiful tangle of a story, and He’s the one who clearly tells me when to speak it. And, most importantly, He brings the people (like you) whose hearts He’s been preparing. It’s all Him.
I’m encouraged daily by the exciting things God is doing with “Growing Nurse Debi” and I want to thank you for partnering with me over the last few years. It may be my name you see on the top of your screen, but remember … it’s no accident you’re reading this.
God has given you a particular purpose here, as well.
I pray for you to not only learn and be lifted here, but to take these lessons that I clumsily trip my way through and share them with others because none of us ever truly knows what another human being is facing.
Only God – the One who sent you here for a reason and tangled all of our tangles up together – truly knows that. Now let’s see just what He does with it. Praise be.
Thanks for growing with me. ❤
“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.” (2 Corinthians 1:3-4)
Debi Thankyou again for your words of wisdom. Every time your words point to the One who holds you close, whose light is in your heart and whose love really does fill the universe. May our eyes behold the presence of Christ in all the places he goes before us.
